Internal whitening
Restoring the original colour of a root-treated tooth that has darkened, without covering it.
Over time, a non-vital (root-treated) tooth can take on a darker or yellowish shade, contrasting with the rest of the smile. This change is caused by the oxidation of pigments inside the tooth itself.
Fortunately, it is possible to restore its original colour without covering it: this is the principle behind internal whitening.
How does it work?
Access from the back of the tooth
A small opening is discreetly made at the back of the tooth to access the pulp chamber.
Cleaning of the old filling
Old or discoloured internal residue is carefully removed.
Application of the whitening product
A specific gel (usually based on sodium perborate) is placed inside the tooth, which is then temporarily sealed.
Gradual action
The product works over the course of a few days. Several sessions may be needed depending on how significant the colour change needs to be.
Final closure
Once the shade matches the rest of the smile, the tooth is permanently sealed with an aesthetic resin.
The benefits of this technique
- Preservation of the natural tooth: no drilling, no prosthesis
- Fast aesthetic results: a clear improvement visible within 2 weeks
- Targeted treatment: affecting only the tooth concerned
- Gentle, painless procedure
