Ceramic restorations
Ceramic crowns and onlays/overlays: restoring strength and function to a damaged tooth.
Dental ceramic is used to make crowns, onlays, overlays and permanent bridges. It remains, to this day, the material that most closely resembles tooth enamel, both in its rigidity and texture and in the way it reacts to temperature changes while eating.
Biocompatible, dental ceramic restores strength to a damaged tooth while providing great chewing comfort. Finally, it wears in a way similar to natural tooth enamel, which is beneficial both for the tooth itself and for neighbouring teeth. These characteristics make it the first choice for our prosthetic restorations.
The dental crown
When a tooth is badly damaged, a full restoration is needed: this is what we call a dental crown.
A dental crown is a restoration that completely covers a damaged tooth. It is custom-made to fit perfectly over the tooth it covers, and restores its shape, size, colour and function. Once fitted, it helps protect the underlying tooth.
The dental onlay / overlay
When the damage is moderate, we favour the use of partial ceramic restorations known as an "onlay" or "overlay".
Dental onlays and overlays are custom-made restorations that cover the surface of a damaged tooth. They allow cavities to be treated or a damaged tooth to be restored without requiring a full crown treatment, offering a functional solution while preserving as much healthy tooth structure as possible. They also help strengthen the treated tooth and prevent future damage.
